New UK spec motorhomes

UK specification cabs under 10 years old are almost certain to have category 2 immobiliser fitted by the manufacturer at the factory during its production.

You can upgrade from category 2 immobiliser to category 1 alarm and immobiliser to provide extra protection. The cab will be protected by ultrasonic sensors and the main living area uses a PIR detector similar to a home alarm system which can be switched off during the night while you are asleeep.

Unofficial imported motorhomes

If your motorhome has been privately improrted it may have a non insurance approved immobiliser already fitted, a Thatcham immobiliser can usually be installed without the need to remove or alter the existing immobiliser.

Older motorhomes

Classic, vintage or any other motorhomes over around 10 years old will not be equipped with a factory fitted Thatcham security system unless the previous owners had an aftermarket system fitted.

Fitting a cat1 alarm and immobiliser rather then just a cat2 immobiliser also provides extra security for non fixed items such as bikes and gas bottles as you can connect a closed loop circuit to the Thatcham alarm.
